Litter in streets becomes litter in streams. Trash in streams can cause huge problems with water quality. It’s important to keep litter off streets, away from storm drains, and ultimately out of the river. In this way, you can help protect our precious water supply and help keep our river and streams clean and healthy.
Bag It Before You Trash It!
It’s important to put your trash in bags before putting them in the dumpster or trash can. When your garbage gets picked up, trash that is not bagged can be easily blown out the pathway to the truck and land on the ground instead.
Keep Lids on Trash Cans and Dumpsters
Keeping the lid tightly secured on your trash can and dumpster covers down prevents trash from being blown out of these receptacles.
